How it works

The Daily Intake Guide thumbnails that you will find on food and drink products are your window to being informed about what you buy, eat and drink.

This daily intake label tells you that if you are on an average adult energy intake of 8,700kJ, then this product will provide 10% (870kJ) of your daily intake for energy. That means you could consume up to 90% of your energy needs from other foods and drinks.

Calculate your daily energy needs

When you find several Daily Intake Guide thumbnails, you'll be able to see what percentage of other daily nutrients that food provides in a single serving. These other nutrients include protein, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars and sodium (salt).

*Percentage daily intakes are based on the average adult diet of 8700kJ. Your daily intakes may be higher or lower depending on your energy needs.

DI means 'daily intake'

Daily Intake or DI values represent an estimated daily intake of energy and other nutrients for an average adult's balanced diet. You can use the 'average adult diet' as a guide, and vary it up or down according to your personal needs. The Daily Intake Guide calculator can help you do this.
